William
Nyarko
Mr.
William Nyarko is Executive Director and Founding Member
of the Ghana Centre for Public Integrity (GCPI), a non-partisan,
non-profit and non-governmental organisation dedicated
to the practise of investigative journalism and to the
promotion of public and private sector accountability.
He
was the News Editor of the Ghanaian Chronicle and has
won several awards including the Best Investigative
Journalist Award of the Ghana Journalists Association
twice-1997 and 1999.
In
2002 and 2003, he trained over 80 journalists in investigative
journalism at separate training events organised by
the Media Foundation for West Africa, the Ghana Integrity
Initiative and Social Alert, Benin. He has occasionally
been invited to lecture students of School of Communication
Studies, University of Ghana, and the Ghana Institute
of Journalism in investigative Journalism and Communications
Research.
In 2002, he was contracted by Transparency International-Berlin
to develop an investigative reporting programme for
the Ugandan media.
William
has spoken at International and National Conferences
on investigative journalism, anti-corruption and good
governance.
He
is a Fellow of the Les Aspin Centre for Government,
USA, a graduate of the Ghana Institute of Journalism,
and serves on several Boards including the Board of
the Ghana Integrity Initiative (Transparency International
Chapter), Friends of the National Zoo and the West Africa
Organisation for Democracy and Governance.
